Vathi, the capital of Samos
Samos town,merged with the traditional town of Vathy,is the island’s main port,it is built amphitheatrically around the closed,protected bay.Neoclassical beauty ,large squares,alleys,ceramic tile rooftops,and a plethora of monuments are the elements coming together in the island capital.Ano Vathi is the most traditional part of town where you can revel in the lovely views to the port and bay.The Archaeological Museum is warth a visit.Further more the Art Museum housed in City Hall is interesting,as is the Museum of Samian Wine in a charming old building where you can acquaint yourself with the long history of local winemaking.The monasteries near Samos town include Aghia Zoni ,the monastery of Zoodohos Pigi and the monastery of Panagia Kotsika is very beautiful.



Pythagorion
Pythagorion is the island’s quintessential cosmopolitan town.The beaches east and west of Pythagorion go on for kilometers,and a number of hotels and tourist businesses have gathered there.The Eupalinian aqueduct-a long tunnel built in 550 BC to supply the ancient city with water and a technological masterpiece at the time-the ancient theater.pottery workshops,a stadium,a wrestling arena,a gymnasiumand quite a few tombs.Pay a visit also to the Byzantine Castle and the Lykourgos Logothetis Tower,next to which is the church Metamorphosis tou Sotira.En route to the Monastery of Panagia Spiliani,built at an incredible location overlooking Pythagorion,you will see the ruins of a Hellenistic mansion and the ruins of an Early Christian 5th century basilica.The islands airport is past the Glyfada wetlands ,which extend above the shore west of the village.An Archaelogical Museum operates in Pythagorion,with exhibits from different eras from all across the island as well as a Museum of Folk Art which is housed in the old Doryssa Bay hotel.


Ireon
Ireon is a coastal village west of Pythagorio ,whose archaeological site attracts a lot of visitors.One of its most important monuments is the colossal temple of Hera,the large altar and the Sacred Way leading to the ancient city,which was built where Pythagorio is now.

Karlovasi
Karlovasi is the island’s second port,and a large commercial and economic center with a long and comprehensive history.An enchanting location west of town is Potami,with a gorgeous shore,an orgy of vegetation,small ponds and waterfalls.The Mathematics School of the University of the Aegean is also based in Karlovasi.A gorgeous trail will lead you from the port to the beaches Mikro Seitani and Meghalo Seitani,away from the crowds at the exit of an impressive gorge.

Vourliotes,Manolates,valeondadhes and Stavrinides are some of the lovely ,traditional villages at the foot of Mt.Ambelos,above Aghios konstadinos and Kokkari.Dense forests,springs,running water,gorgeous chapels and an unsurpassed view to the sea and the northerm coast are the elements which will bring you to this part of the island time and time again.In Mytilinii,in a fertile plain NW of Pythagorio,you can visit the Aegean Museum of Natural History which also houses a Paleontological Museum,the very interesting findings from excavations in the surrounding areas include bone fossils from small and large mammals dated 3,5-7 milion years ago,and from other vertebrates once living on the island.Marathokambos is a quaint town overlooking the olive groves on the SE coast.About 3 km NW ,at the foot of the imposing Mt.Kerketeas,is the Cave of Pythagoras.To approach it you must leave your vehicle on the dirt road and walk the next 200m on the steep slope,until you reach the cave’s entrance.


Samos is not an ordinary island.It is an entire world,a self-sufficient and rich land blessed by nature ,seductive and erotic.However you prefer to travel,you will enjoy it in Samos.The island features an excellent road network,with several forest and off-road routes leading to enchanted places,wonderfull trails through mountains and countryside,and innumerable bays to sail to.
